FAQ: The Incorruptible Library: a Girl Genius Graphic Novel
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Where can I get other Girl Genius stuff? I missed the last Kickstarter!

You can buy any of our earlier Girl Genius Volumes from most online bookstores, as well as many “real world” comic and bookshops. Our official shop at TopatoCo carries the books, as well as all sorts of merchandise, including the unlimited awards we’ve created in past years. If you missed a volume along the way, or haven’t yet picked up a special patch or pin, this is a great time to go shopping!

Travel Stickers: Do higher levels include them?

No, but the travel stickers are available as an add-on, and add-ons are available to anyone who is signed up at a reward that already involves a physical shipment, i.e. $12 and above.

If you are backing at one of these higher levels, you may choose to pledge additional funds - either here at Kickstarter, or later in our survey-management system - for rewards from the add-on list.

Why is it adding shipping & handling for US addresses? Isn't that included?

Originally, Kickstarter assumed that all customers would be in the US. Very quickly, they added a function for an International “upcharge”. They’ve now broken it down further, allowing project creators to state different amounts of shipping and handling for a variety of locations.

OK, but why didn’t you just keep including domestic S&H in the basic price of a reward level?

It turns out that this was causing overseas customers to be levied too much in import duties, which really wasn’t fair. You aren’t supposed to pay customs or import taxes on shipping & handling, but if it’s included in the price, the taxing authorities certainly calculate it that way! By putting the shipping and handling as a separate piece for everyone, the stated price for customs documents reflects only the value of the reward itself - not a value inflated by the cost of domestic shipping and handling.

We apologize for any confusion this causes, and hope that it does make things run more smoothly for our backers outside the US.

Are PDFs included in higher levels?

Yes! It was our first stretch goal. Now, everybody above the $10 level gets the PDF.

What is the recommended age level for these books?

We tell people “teens and up” just to be safe. We occasionally make saucy jokes, and there’s some violence. It’s not too horrible, but everyone has their own ideas about what’s appropriate, so we like to err on the side of caution. You can read the whole thing for free on girlgeniusonline.com, so if you’re not sure, go have a look and make your own informed decision!

Why do some of your rewards say "designs not final?"

In some cases, especially the medals, we’re still working with the manufacturers. We know that things sometimes look kind of different once they’re translated from a drawing to a finished, 3D object. We’re just warning you that design tweaks may happen. (Nothing huge, though…)

Why is International shipping so expensive?

Because it is. The USPS continues to raise its rates, and the shipping on this campaign reflects that. We checked the shipping costs for all of our items, and in a couple of cases, actually dialed it down a little out of sheer horror.

How do add-ons work?

Kickstarter itself only tracks the total amount of your pledge (which you can adjust once you’ve made it - just hit the “manage my pledge” button), and the reward level you’ve chosen (which you can also change).

If you have your eye on additional reward items, you can add the specified amount here, in Kickstarter, or you can wait, and add the funds in our post-campaign survey manager. Either way is fine for us! The amounts listed in the Add-Ons menu of the campaign include an allowance for US domestic shipping & handling. If you’re outside the US, the survey manager will calculate any additional postage required during the final checkout process.

Does the $75 "Both Bindings, no Nonsense" level come with two signed bookplates?

Yes. One “Envelope of Madness” for each book is included with this level. (The “Envelope of Madness” is where we hide the signed bookplates.) We would change the listing to reflect that, but we can’t!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
